COUNTERTERRORISM AND HUMAN RIGHTS PROGRAM

Counterterrorism has recently been high on the political agenda of many Western countries, which has led to an erosion of fundamental principles of the rule of law. These counterterrorism strategies have resulted in serious human rights violations and increasing limitations on individual freedoms. The erosion of data protection, expansion of surveillance and monitoring, limitation of criminal procedural rights, increasing penalization, secret prisons and the use of torture are just a few examples of the disproportionate and ineffective measures used in the international struggle against terrorism.

Therefore, challenging the "War on Terror" in a legal manner is a commitment to the universal rule of law. ECCHR publicizes human rights violations that have occurred in the "War on Terror" and uses a variety of legal tools in order to hold persons, states and organizations responsible for their activities and achieve adequate compensation for victims.
