INFORMATION SESSION ON THE ARGENTINE DICTATORSHIP TRIALS
ECCHR-OFFICE, 12 NOVEMBER 2009
WITH LAWYER RODOLFO YANZON
The legal proceedings in Argentina are unprecedented. For the second time since the dictatorships trials of 1984-85, and after years of impunity, large scale criminal proceedings will take place against members of the military dictatorship, which reigned from 1976-1983. The German Coalition Against Impunity (est. 1998), in collaboration with other human rights organizations, has fought to hold the military accountable. In 2003 the Nuremberg court issued a warrant for the arrest of former Argentine dictator Videla for the murder of German citizen Elisabeth Käsemann (killed in 1977). Human rights lawyer Rodolfo will talk about the progress of the case, and the obstacles facing human rights cases in Argentina. He will focus on those cases with German victims, including the EPMA method (which victimized Adriana Markus, Arin Delacourt, among countless others), the case against Rovere on behalf of Nora Marx, and the various procedures on the murder of Ms. Käsemann. Finally, Miriam Saage-Maaß will discuss the status of the Argentine cases on missing Mercedes-Benz trade union workers.

TERRORISM LISTS, EXECUTIVE POWER AND RIGHTS
BRUSSELS, 20 OCTOBER 2009
WITH THE FREE UNIVERSITY OF BRUSSELS
One of the most controversial aspects of the so-called “war on terror” is the proscription or designation of alleged terrorists, their associates and financial supporters by the European Union and the United Nations. Hundreds of groups and
individuals around the world have been placed upon various “terrorist
lists” and subject to the freezing of their assets, travel bans and
other serious sanctions. Despite the gravity of the accusations
and the impact of their designation upon fundamental rights, affected
parties have been systematically denied the right to mount a
meaningful challenge to their inclusion on the lists. This conference
brings together a distinguished group of expert practitioners,
lawyers, academics and human rights organisations to examine these
issues and consider possible ways forward.

ECCHR EXPERT DISCUSSION: ECONOMY AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN TIMES OF GLOBALIZATION

WITH DR. FRANZISKA HUMBERT, PROF. DR. CARSTEN SCHÄFER, PROF. DR. PETER DERLEDER, DR. EVA KOCHER, DR. MIRIAM SAAGE-MAAß, OLAF DILLING & DR. KATHARINA SPIEß
In times of globalization, corporations increasingly operate
transnationally. While these corporations continue to increase their
share of market power, human rights violations and environmental
degradation rise and multiply in production locations as a result.
There exists a problematic legal gap as the scope of national laws is
often restricted to the territories of particular states and adequate
international regulations are not available.
